About a month ago one of my best friends had her bridal shower.  I knew I wanted to make something special for her to enjoy in her first year of marriage, so I did a little research and came up with this…

WineGiftBasket

Here are some instructions on how to make your own:

1. Bottles of wine:

1st Home – Picket Fence Chardonnay (they also have a pinot noir)

1st Fight – Clean Slate Riesling

1st Baby – Sparkling Cider

1st Wedding Anniversary – Francis Coppola Diamond Collection Cabernet Sauvignon  (there are a variety of wines to chose from in their diamond collection).

2. Basket:

I found this basket at Michael’s.  They have a huge selection of baskets that are all different shapes and sizes.  I also used bags of shredded raffia to fill the basket.  I had to use two bags and I also used tissue paper at the bottom to make the basket look extra full.

3. Making the labels – this is my favorite part!

Everything in this picture was purchased from Michael’s except for the scissors which are from Target.

I wanted to make sure that I chose scrapbook paper that was plain enough to see the stamp but also wasn’t boring.  This particular design worked perfectly! The scissor set from Target was a great buy and it was only about $10.  The tags come in a couple of different colors but the natural brown color went with the look that I was going for.

Everything in this picture was also purchased from Michael’s.

The skeleton key stamp was used for the 1st home label, the “all you need is love!” stamp was used for the 1st fight label, the “babies are such sweet beginnings” was used for the 1st baby label, and the cheers stamp was used for the 1st anniversary.  Michael’s has such a great selection of stamps you could really get creative with this project if you wanted to.  In the same aisle they also have different colored ink pads if you wanted to do something other than black.

Elmer's Craft Bond Clear Dual Tip Glue Pen - purchased from Michael's. The glue is great for this project!

When I did this project I held the scrapbook paper to the tag and then cut it to make sure it would fit.  Once I had the scrapbook paper cut I stamped the scrapbook paper and then let it sit for a while before gluing it to the tag.

Poems to go on the back of the labels:

1st  Fight

Love as you might,

You’ll have your first fight…

Drink this wine,

While you make up all night.

1st Anniversary

You wear you love and joyfulness as husband and wife

By looking like the last year was the best of your life.

So happy anniversary here’s my wish for you

May the love you had the first year double in number two.

1st Baby

The news that a baby will soon share your life

Will make you a mother not only a wife.

You’ll see it through good times and bad.

_______ the loving mother and _______ the dearest dad.

Even though she must toast with this sparkling cider

In nine months she’ll have bubbly with baby beside her.

1st Home

Home is the place your heart resides.

Home is the place that you decide.

Home is the womb that holds the soul.

Home is the place where your family will grow.

Final Steps:
Once you have printed out the poems and personalized them to your liking cut them (with the fun scissors) and glue them to the back of the appropriate labels.  Tie the labels to the neck of your wine bottles with some pretty ribbon or raffia.  I enjoyed making this so much that I made a few extra labels to use for client baskets and other gifts for friends.
